Description

Experience the magic of the Happiest Place on Earth – no not Disney! The tiny Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. I went on a wonderful trip last spring through REI and thoroughly enjoyed the friendly people, the (sometimes astoundingly) preserved cultural traditions and mythology, breathtaking scenery and gorgeously painted buildings.

But I want more- I want to go back and further explore the ancient healing traditions that are very much still active, forage for Himalayan herbs and spend more time absorbing the beautiful spiritual teachings that are part of daily life in Bhutan. I want to go back with like minded people who are interested in health and happiness and that’s why I’m inviting you to join me on a customized itinerary.

This trip is running as a “special interest tour” through tour company Druk Jorpel Adventures - www.jorpeladventures.com led by Tashi Wangdi, who was the lead guide for REI and Sierra Club in Bhutan before he started his own company. Tashi has degrees in History and English and a personal devotion to Buddhism and the lore of Bhutan that will have you picking his brain for hours.

Special treats we have planned for you include:

  • Talking with local healers and meditation teachers.

  • Learning about plants and minerals used in local healing traditions.

  • Dining with a local family in their farmhouse.

  • Relaxing in a traditional herbal hot stone bath at the farmhouse.

  • Day hikes to remote monasteries and temples.

  • Partaking in a relaxing Ayurvedic treatment at a local shop.

  • One rustic overnight at a remote hot springs.
